Bio

Julie Mattox is a prairie restoration steward and retired surveyor with 35 years in the energy industry across the U.S. and Canada. She now focuses on restoring tallgrass prairie on a former dairy in Northeast Texas, integrating soil health, adaptive multispecies grazing, and native plant restoration. Julie partners with Texas Parks & Wildlife and NRCS to apply science-based management and has forage-tested over 50 species for livestock nutrition, with recent DNA metabarcoding research on cattle and sheep diets. She is the 2024 Lone Star Land Steward Award recipient for the Post Oak Savannah Ecoregion, as well as a 2024 Texas Chapter of The Wildlife Society honoree. Julie also serves as Vice President of the Northeast Texas Native Prairies Association and Major Pro Tem of Yantis, TX.
