Hello everyone, my name is Ryan Hicks, and I serve as an Ag/4-H Extension Educator in Murray County Oklahoma with Oklahoma State University. I enjoy the variety this role offers, some days I’m working with farmers and ranchers to tackle challenges, while other days I’m guiding youth through hands-on learning experiences. Before joining OSU, I spent six years as the Ag Technology Coordinator at the Noble Research Institute, where I helped connect researchers and ranch managers with innovative tools and solutions to improve data efficiency and sustainability.
For my project, I plan to give a presentation to local producers in my county on the use of prescribed fire as a management tool to reduce woody encroachment. In addition, I will highlight the role of prescribed burn associations and how they support producers in conducting safe and effective burns.
