As the Edwards County Conservation District Manager, I work daily within the USDA Service Center, assisting NRCS with conservation efforts such as planning, program deliver, and outreach. In addition, I administer and promote the Edwards County Conservation District's own State Cost-Share programs, which provide local landowners with financial assistance for practices such as water resource management, non-point source pollution reduction, cover crops, windbreaks, and more. My role combines education, outreach, and program management, from hosting workshops, school visits, and community events to managing social media and producer communications. At its core, my job is to connect farmers, ranchers, and landowners with the resources and knowledge that they need- whether through NRCs programs or local Conservation District initiatives- to protect soil, water, and natural resources while supporting a resilient agricultural community.
My project focuses on engaging Edwards County producers, students, and the broader community in rangeland management education. Through workshops, farmer-to-farmer discussions, youth classroom lessons, and a social media outreach series, I highlight practical approaches like prescribed fire, patch-burn grazing, and multi-species grazing. The goal is to build awareness of local rangeland challenges such as woody encroachment and drought while encouraging adoption of sustainable management practices that support both agricultural productivity and ecosystem health.
